Government Legislation
Following a government consultation in 2018,
on 6th April 2022, new regulations came into force that requires large food businesses in England with 250 or more employees to display calories next to food items offered for sale.
Whilst it is not yet mandatory,
UK.GOV encourages small businesses to adopt menu calorie labelling on a voluntary basis.

How does the
legislation affect your business?
The UK Government will consider making calorie labelling compulsory for ALL businesses of any size in the out of home food sector within five years of initial rollout (APRIL 6th 2022).
This is happening because the increasing consumption of out-of-home meals are considered a crucial contributing factor to the rising levels of obesity particularly, in children. When the out of home food sector does not display the nutrient content of the food it sells, it is difficult for consumers to make informed healthier decisions for themselves and their families.
